Over the summer 2010 a team of DPRC researchers worked hard at formulating the National Industrial Policy 2010 for the Ministry of Industries and Production, Government of Pakistan. The exercise was funded by World Bank but monitored and implemented by the Ministry.

The draft National Industrial Policy 2010 has now been developed by DPRC Group of researchers and final report has been approved by the Ministry of Industries & Production, Government of Pakistan. The policy is an outcome of a three-month long process that involved research based on primary and secondary data, rigorous analysis as well as a gruelling but highly rewarding nationwide consultation process with multiple stakeholders including industrialists, trade associations, chambers of commerce and industry, public sector institutions and universities. The draft policy proposals have been presented at FPCCI, Karachi and Chambers of Commerce and Industry in Sukkur, Hyderabad, Multan, Karachi, Peshawar, Faisalabad, Gujranwala and Lahore. The final presentation was made in Islamabad to the members of the task force appointed by the Ministry along with a diverse group of industry leaders.

The report can be found here.

As a result of this work DPRC/LUMS has also been awarded the implementation phase of this policy. A smaller group is working with the key representatives of the Ministry to formulate the implementation plan. We anticipate generating more collaborative work with MOIP and World Bank in actual implementation of the policy.

The whole process was a result of significant contributions made by:

1. Dr. Abid Burki
2. Dr. Kamal Munir
3. Dr. Mushtaq Khan
4. Dr. Turab Hussain
5. Usman Khan, CFA IMC
6. Adeel Faheem
7. Ayesha Khalid
